Unemployment Insurance Benefits
In addition to the normal state benefits, you may be eligible for the federally authorized Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA).
- Expanded Eligibility for those directly out of work due to the pandemic to include:
• Furloughed workers
• Business owners or the self employed
• Those required to not engage in work due to being “especially susceptible” or immuno-compromised. - Supplementary weekly benefit of an additional $600.00 per week on top of your normal benefit until July 31, 2020.
- Extended benefits of 13 weeks beyond the normal 26 weeks of benefits.

COVID Paid Sick Leave
This is a benefit of wage continuation paid directly by your employer due to yours or your dependent child’s direct illness or quarantine from the effects of the COVID-19, coronavirus, pandemic. The benefit is determined based on the size of your employer.
- Employer size of 1-10 employees and have a net income of more than $1 million in 2019 then you are entitled to 5 days of sick leave pay at the rate of your regular salary.
- Employer size 11-99 employees regardless of net income must provide 5 days of paid sick leave.
- Employer size over 100 then they must provide 14 days of paid sick leave.

COVID Paid Family Leave
If you are out of work due to a quarantine, or as a precautionary order of quarantine or isolation after the expiration of any paid sick leave, you are eligible for paid family leave.
This is for the duration of your quarantine. You can be paid a maximum of $2884.62 per week depending on your pre-quarantine wages.

New York State Workers' Compensation Benefits
New York Workers' Compensation Benefits are also available from your employer's insurance company if you become sick or disabled due to the effects of COVID-19 and have contracted the illness from an exposure at work. Workers' Compensation provides the following benefits:
- Payment for lost wages beyond seven days from work and/or payment retroactive to day 1 if your disability exceeds 14 days. The weekly payment amount is generally 66% of your wages which can continue for as long as you are disabled. Workers' Compensation Benefits are non-taxable.
- Workers' Compensation also covers 100% of the medical treatment costs due to your work-related injury or illness.
- Should the unfortunate circumstance occur that your injury or illness results in death, a lost wage benefit is available to your spouse and dependents.
You should know that Workers' Compensation does have specific time limitations on your ability to file a claim; as such, it is not wise to wait if you believe that you have an injury caused by work.
