HOPEFUL NEWS!
Onondaga County will be receiving $21 million dollars for rental relief through the latest Federal COVID relief bill. The latest reports indicate that Landlords and Tenants can apply for the relief through an online application process starting April 19, 2021.
Landlords may apply on behalf of the tenants. However, the tenants will need to qualify, so the Landlord may need the Tenants to provide information to prove their eligibility. As the County describes, this is a relief package for tenant stability. Tenants will need to show they were financially affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and that their income is less than 80% of the median income for the area. If the tenants qualify for rental relief payments, the relief payments will be directly sent to the landlord. However, the county is looking to put in eviction restrictions as part of the landlord’s acceptance of funds. These restrictions are still undecided, but there may be rules as part of the acceptance of the funds.
